Clear from the first walk-through to the last punch-list item.

Walk-through. We meet at the site, look at the work and talk through what you want.
Written proposal. A clear scope and price, so you know what's included before anything starts.
Build with updates. We schedule the trades and inspections and keep you posted as the work moves along.
Changes in writing. If the plan changes, you see the cost before the work is done.
Final walk-through. We go over everything together and finish the punch list.
